SUMMARY:Intro to Advocacy - How to reframe agritourism in ways that allow for supportive policies
DESCRIPTION:We welcome you to join the next conversation of all North American members of the Global Agritourism Network (GAN). \nRegister for the Zoom Meeting here: Meeting Registration – Zoom \nSpeakers: Cassandra Prenn-Vasilakis (Hipcamp) and Phil Hallstedt (HH Cherries\, Michigan) \nCassandra will speak to successful agritourism initiatives around the USA (e.g.\, Santa Barbara County’s new agritourism ordinance); also how to make it personal\, the agencies that should be in the room\, and which organizations might be able to help with regulatory challenges. Phil will speak specifically to his new business model for farms under 100 acres in Michigan that includes ‘NON AG\, ON FARM” income for which farm stays and workshops are a solution. \nScottie Jones of Farmstay and Suzi Spahr of NAFDMA International Agritourism Association will lead the meeting\, as co-chairs of the North America region of GAN. The goal of the interactive Zoom meeting is to connect with others working in agritourism throughout North America and begin developing a strategy for sharing resources\, strengthening networks\, and supporting agritourism throughout our region. \nThe Global Agritourism Network welcomes everyone including farmers\, ranchers\, and other agricultural producers; researchers; educators; community planners; government entities; agricultural service providers; development organizations; tour operators; etc. By working together across professions\, GAN aims to enhance the capacity of agritourism worldwide.

SUMMARY:Regenerative Agritourism Pathway Recognition Program
DESCRIPTION:Regenerative Vanua supports Vanuas (Customary land holding community’s) to diversify into markets such as regenerative agritourism\, regenerative gastronomy\, regenerative value chains\, and payment for ecosystem services through the Regenerative Agritourism Pathway Recognition Program (RAPRP). Regenerative Vanua sees the potential of Vanuas not as destinations but as educational and transformational experiences connecting visitors with regenerative knowledge systems in the Pacific. Reframing tourism as an opportunity to strengthen and share culture and community through regenerative transformational and educational experiences based on regenerative farming and food systems\, rather than as a commercialised\, visitor-centred business operation which contrasts with the way tourism has been managed in the past. \nThe RAPRP was developed through Australian Centre for Pacific Islands Research (ACIAR)-funded research and incorporates planned agricultural practices that ensure the land of each participating community is not being depleted by harmful agriculture practice\, whilst following the pathway\, soil\, water\, air and biodiversity should be improved. There are also set agritourism practices that ensure the Vanua is not being depleted by over-tourism/negative human impact or impacting on food security. These application tools enable landholders and communities to collect their own data to show progress against the RAPRP standards. This data managed by Regenerative Vanua can also be used to access direct financial support from Government and private markets to support a transition to regenerative practices and ensure immediate and long-term resilience. \nFacilitated by GAN’s Regenerative Agritourism committee\, this webinar will be hosted by Dr Cherise Addinsall ACIAR Project lead for the RAPRP\, alongside Alasdair Smithson from Organic Knowledge\, Laurana Rakau Tokataake\, Operations Manager Regenerative Vanua. \nRegister for this webinar here.

SUMMARY:Triggering the Flow Experience in Agritourism: Contexts\, Moments\, and Outcomes
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to inform you that the 3rd GAN Research Committee Webinar will take place on Friday October 3rd at 18h30 (6.30pm) Central European Time \nThe Theory of Opare inherently laced with viable triggers for the flow state. Hospitality and experiential design can be tailored to activate these inherent but typically latent triggers. This webinatimal Experience\, i.e. Flow Theory describes a psychological state featuring deep focus\, intrinsic motivation\, and full engagement. This “flow state” may be triggered when a few key conditions are met. After the flow state is experienced\, various benefits can result pertaining to mental health\, creativity\, and engagement at work. Tourism\, and more specifically agritourism\, r will describe Flow Theory and discuss key findings in the wider tourism literature. In addition\, examples of “flow-compatible” hospitality design in wine tourism and agritourism will be presented. \nPresenter:   Matthew Coyne \nDepartment of Hospitality & Tourism Management \nIsenberg School of Management \nUniversity of Massachusetts\, USA \n  \nRegister for the Webinar here.

SUMMARY:A Wor(l)d of Agritourism: Definitions and Values Identified by the Global Agritourism Network
DESCRIPTION:Agritourism is defined in different ways around the world\, which can lead to confusion and miscommunications in practice\, policy\, and research. To provide clarity and consistency\, the Global Agritourism Network (GAN) Definitions and Standards Committee has been meeting regularly for three years\, bringing together diverse perspectives and seeking common ground. \nIn this webinar\, leaders of the committee will describe the process and share the agreed upon definition\, values\, and acknowledgement of global agritourism variability. The definition and values presented are grounded in real-world examples gathered from diverse regions. The webinar will close with next steps for continuing the work of defining agritourism. \nRegister for the Webinar Here \nTo request a disability-related accommodation to participate in this program\, please contact Shawna Perrin in the USA at 802-656-7530 or Shawna.Perrin@uvm.edu so we may assist you.
